So, the workshop I lead at Mount Allison last weekend went really well. It was a professional development day for the New Brunswick Teachers' Association, and I did two sessions on Creative Expression techniques. Here a few pictures of the lovely Moncton High teachers I worked with for the day, enjoying some mark making and collage techniques.

Recovery Art Studio

We are now into our third week facilitating the Recovery Art Studio at the Victoria Health Centre. It is incredibly exciting and fulfilling to see the students take risks and embrace their creativty! New skills, friendships and confidence are being built up with each new class. Some great news is that we got the approval from management to continue the Studio past the trial period! We are working on grant funding applications and other sources of income to keep the Studio going. Great times!

Wes and I had dinner at the Blue Door last Saturday night, where my work is currently decorating the upstairs dining room. Great restaurant, highly recommend it! And it was pretty neat to see my paintings hanging there. They are up til November, and can be purchased through this website!

This past weekend my partner Wes was up for a visit from Halifax and we did some scouting for Underdogs. These are the old roads accessing the mud dumps, or coal cuts, behind Minto.

Successful week at the Barracks

Tomorrow is my last day of Arist in Residence at the Barracks in down town Fredericton. What a great experience, and productive too! I met folks from Quebec, Pennsylvania, Vancouver, and even Japan and Italy! How they made it to my little burg, I can only guess. Lots of encouragement and curiosity for my take on this art thing. Thanks to the Fredericton Arts Alliance for the opportunity!

Here are a few pictures from Emerge's display at M&T Deli the month of August. This mini show's theme is a visual interpretation of a poem by a Fredericton poet. Triny Finlay, Alden Nowlan, and Francis Joseph Sherman are just a few of the poets represented by the group. Thanks Larry for the excellent photos! And thanks to M&T Deli for having us! All works are available for purchase through the artist.

Reference photos and studio time

8/12/2014

In preparation for my residency at the Barracks next week, I spent an hour walking around down town with my 1972 Minolta SRT 200, and my trusty digital camera that Wes gave me. I need reference photos for drawings and collages that i'll be working on next week.... It was an interesting experience walking a mile or two in Wes's shoes. Dragging around 2 cameras and gear, sweating profusely, getting glares and curious stares from city officials and passers-by as I expolored interesting bits of graffiti and construction zones. I was drawn to the Westmorland street bridge and couldn't snap fast enough the strange and engaging perspective of pylons underneath. My goal was to explore perspective and vanishing points. Here's my favourite from the day, which will turn into a half painted/half cut paper collage next week:
